Chill by the Sulmsee

Johannes’s parents owned a chalet by the lake of Sulmsee, he invited us trainees and few of his mates over for the weekend. Although it was a hard Friday night, surprisingly I was already awoke by 11:00am Saturday and while the others were still in bed. They were late and we were roughly two hours behind the intended time. However it only took us 30 minutes to reach the chalet by car, so it didn’t really matter.

Leaving our baggage and food at the chalet, we went to Schloss Seggau (Seggau Castle) up in the Mt. Seggau, which is just beside Sulmsee. The castle is not as great as those that I had been before. It was neither luxurious nor lavish. There weren’t any spectacular sculpture, art pieces or monuments. It was quite a contrast to the Eggenberg in Graz and Residenz in Munich. Having said that, the scenery surrounding the castle was excellent. It gave a panoramic view of the region and we could even see the border to Slovenia. To me, Schloss Seggau looked more like a monastery. In fact, it is owned by the Catholic Church. After taking some pictures, we sat at the cafĂ© to kill some time.

When it was about time, we drove back to the chalet to watch the match England against Portugal. Personally, I am not a hardcore England fan. For many years, I have seen them as one of the public favourites of the FIFA World Cup and attracted a lot of public attention. The players are skilful and experienced. However when you put them in a team, somehow they just underperformed. For what reasons, I don’t really know. Yet, I have always supported them if they are not playing against Argentina and Germany. As I was watching Rooney been given red card and expel from the field, I could only say tough luck. It was so stupid of him to hit someone in front of the referee. Regardless, England had played a far better game than Portugal with just 10 men. Portugal enjoyed none advantage from the circumstances. When it went down to penalties, Laura had already predicted that England would lose and she walked out the chalet. Ricardo’s twice successful blocking and Ronaldo’s deciding score sent England packing back home. The result of the match was quite disappointing but not unexpected. Later in the evening, we had BBQ and swam in the lake. The lake was quite shallow and I could even stand in the lake, but the soft and marshy soil was disgusting. The others, who did not bring their swimming suit, just sat by the lake and played with the football. The night was easy and relaxing. After few card games, I went to sleep in the hammock.

Early Sunday morning, I had already roused from sleep. Not too sure whether I was slowly used to waking up early or was it because of the neighbours. They were having a morning swim and I could hear their conversation clearly. I jumped off the hammock and walked out the chalet. Both Martina and Laura were sitting outside with a book in they hands. I took a seat and just went brain blank, just like a typical morning of mine. When the time that Kathi and Joy arrived, we finished our breakfast, it was already late noon. We fastened our pace in cleaning the house and putting everything back to its original. Then, we left for the Buschenschank (Wine Tavern) and the tower in the Demmerkogler region. *Getting sleepy and don’t feel like continue…* The day didn’t just stop here. Some of us went to the Grazer Oper to watch La Traviata and Camila’s farewell after the show.
